We aim to offer opportunities which are as tangible as possible for emerging artists. We’re a tiny little collective ourselves but we don’t believe that doesn’t mean we can do huge things in collaboration with others.

Below are the main opportunities we currently offer artists. We’re fortunate enough to have multiple consistent funders – without whom we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. We’re always looking to expand, and so will always make sure this page is up to date with anything that you can get involved with.

You can also visit our social media pages for the most regular recent individual submission opportunities for artists that we share from our networks. These can be mixed between paid and non-paid opportunities, with a variety of different sized creative companies looking to have work submitted.

PAID ACTING CALL (UK)

We are so excited to announce that we have a paid acting call for x2 UK based actors for our latest upcoming project! Thanks to the generous work of our funders and supporters, including The Royal Society of Literature, Arts Council England and Lift Off Global Network, we are working towards another short film project towards the end of year as a proof of concept.

This will include both vocal and on screen roles, with one of the actors working with us in a 2 day devised R&D in our home city of Nottingham. Each role brings something different, and we’d love to be able to collaborate with artists out there to make this happen.

Ahead of the role breakdowns, we feel it’s really important to state that we’d like you to go get in touch regardless of experience, representation, previous credits or filming abilities for self tapes etc. Auditioning can be a nightmare – but we’re a collective whose whole existence is based around emerging practitioners. If you have any questions, queries or would like to present your work in however you choose – then you can let us know by email (stghostycreatives@gmail.com) or by messaging us on social media should you prefer. We’re open – we just want to see you act however you feel comfortable doing so.

We especially welcome applications from under-represented and mis-represented voices in the arts, including but not limited to creatives identifying as Black, Global Majority, Disabled, Queer and Neurodivergent.

Unfortunately due to our scheduling, we’re not able to hold formal casting, and so will be going on applications alone. Please send these in an email, alongside a bit information about you as an actor, your journey so far, and some examples of your previous work in whatever format you choose.

We are looking for:

ACTOR #1

  • Any age, any gender
  • Shorter, vocal only role in the film akin to a narrator. We’re estimating only 2 minutes of lines.
  • Must be available to attend a 3 hour recording day in Nottingham, UK to attend our Studio space. The date for this can be agreed depending on the availability of the actor and the St Ghosty team.
  • £180 payment plus reasonable travel incurred
  • Must be living or from the East Midlands, UK.

ACTOR #2

  • Playing age 25-40, woman identifying.
  • Will be an on camera role for an estimated 8 minutes total. This will form a mix between monologues and incidental shots for transitions.
  • Rehearsal schedule to be agreed depending on availability but fee to include a 2 day R&D in Nottingham in November. This will be an opportunity for us to collaborate in the space, to experiment and to eventually record all required footage by the conclusion.
  • £300 payment plus reasonable travel incurred
  • Can be from/based anywhere in the UK

~ SIGNALS ~

Thanks to the generous funding of Arts Council England and The Royal Society of Literature, we are able to run our artistic/project feedback cycle SIGNALS at three points during the year. Following our receipt of the Literature Matters award in 2024, we’ve gone on to provide feedback and direct input into the creative projects on 55 different artists and companies – and this is something we’re very grateful for. The open periods of submission are:

  • 1st January – 1st March
  • 1st May – 1st July
  • 1st October – 1st December

If you would like feedback on an artistic project you’re creating or leading, or creative feedback on a creative endeavour itself (e.g. script, fiction, installation) then you can register your interest and we will provide you with our feedback within 2-3 weeks of your request.

Projects can range from Literary and Dramaturgical feedback on WIPs, Scripts and screenplays – or more project based if you’re running something in your community or are trying to apply for funding. We’re largely open to what we receive, and we’ll be honest with you if we don’t think we can be of much use to your endeavour.

We don’t pretend to know all the answers, but between our team of three award winning writers and producers – we have more than seven years experience across film, theatre and Literature – achieving professional credits and funding in all of these areas. If we feel we can’t be useful, then we’ll do our best to point you towards people we think will be.

If you would like receive feedback as part of SIGNALS, and so long as we’re in one of the open periods outlined above – then follow the below instructions. Please bear in mind that if we are not in one of the three open periods outlined above, then you will need to resubmit your request once a new valid period begins (sorry).

So then, instructions:

  • Email stghostycreatives@gmail.com, with the subject line – SIGNALS – *Project name* – *Company/artist name*
  • Give us a 100 word summary of you as an artist/company.
  • Provide 100 words on what your aim is for the project/ piece of work. What would you most like to get out of a completed draft or plan?
  • Then describe your project/piece of work. This can be in as much or as little detail as you want (although we may come back with questions if we’re not 100% sure what you’re after.)
  • We’ll provide you with our standardised one-pager, providing a page of feedback as well as recommendations on what to do next. This includes directing you towards funding pots or organisations where we think your work would thrive.

Mic’d Up

Mic’d up is our ongoing, open submission period for anyone who wants to share an opinion piece on art or creativity. It could be anything from reviews of your favourite works, your thoughts on the industry or even recommendations for great places out there for creatives to find joy. This is a staple offer of ours, and has been something we’ve managed since first starting St Ghosty.

Here’s a few guidelines:

  • Articles should be between 500 – 1,000 words
  • Title the subject of your email ‘Submission – STG’ and then your name.
  • please include the text of the article itself in the email, rather than as a link or attachment.
  • If you have any questions or require any adjustments to the process in order to submit then please feel free to let us know.
  • We’re also very happy to accept video submissions – these should be between 3-5 minutes long and you’ll need to confirm whether you’d prefer us to share your voice through audio format or if you’d like to transcribe it into a written article.
  • We’re open to other forms of media as well, so if you’re unsure then you can contact us to tell us about what you think might work.

We can’t share everything we receive, and might decline if we feel it’s not something that fits with our ethos, however you’ll always get a response from us either way.
